Academic and Movement Class Descriptions

Helping children get Stronger, Smarter, and Better!

JUNGLE GYM CLASS
Current research shows that gross motor exercise not only builds a strong body but actually builds a better brain as well.  Our Jungle Gym class helps students meet their maximum potential.  We focus on building foundational skills including:  Eye-hand coordination/ Core strength/ Perceptual skills/ Motor coordination/ Fine motor skills/ Sustained attention/ Balance.   Training takes place in a fun, group setting where children learn the valuable life skills of following directions, cooperative play and independence.

SPORTS DEVELOPMENT CLASS
Core Possibilities Sports Development Class improves athletic performance and strengthens motor foundations in a fun and exciting way.  THE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT CLASS IS DESIGNED TO:   Improve coordination/ Boost confidence on the sports field/ Enhance eye-hand and eye-foot coordination/ Increase endurance/ Improve balance/ Develop good teamwork and sportsmanship skills.  This class is a great mixture of brain and body strengthening activities engineered for success on the sports field and in the classroom.

READING COMPREHENSION PROGRAM
A primary cause of comprehension problems is difficulty bringing everything together and getting a complete picture in the mind. This is called weak concept imagery.  Individuals get only “parts” of an idea, or a few facts or details, rather than the whole picture.  The Nancibell® Visualizing and Verbalizing Program® (V/V®) successfully stimulates concept imagery.  Individuals become able to make images in their mind to improve their language comprehension, reasoning for critical thinking, and expressive language skills in a fun and exciting way.

MATH FOUNDATIONS
Math Foundations is designed to strengthen a child’s ability to image and verbalize the concepts underlying math processes.  Math concepts and numeral imagery are integrated with language and applied to computation and problem solving.  There is emphasis on both mathematical reasoning and mathematical computation.  Our instruction is based on each individual child’s learning needs and embodies an interactive, balanced approach.  Our goal is to teach students foundational skills to help them become self-correcting and more confident in math skills.

WRITING PROGRAM
Our unique and compelling curriculum and teaching strategies allow children to gain mastery and confidence more quickly so they can focus on the content of their work rather than the mechanics of letter formation.  These programs combine the proven success of Handwriting Without Tears® and engaging techniques and activities that improve a child’s self-confidence, pencil grip and body awareness skills while teaching accurate letter formation, spacing and neatness.

READING BOOTCAMP
Reading Boot Camp is designed to strengthen reading and spelling foundations.  The skills taught develop phonemic awareness and symbol imagery skills in a new sensory-rich method that focuses on self-correction, increased independence and success.   This class is a great mixture of reading and movement skills engineered for success.  We focus on sound and vowel expectancies, decoding skills, reading fluency strategies, word imagery, tracking sounds and sight words.

LEARN TO READ (Preschool / First Grade)
Learn to Read class is designed to introduce and strengthen foundational reading skills in a fun and exciting way.  The class will emphasize several key areas needed for reading success, including:  Phonemic awareness (clear discrimination of consonant and vowel sounds and blends)/Decoding and word attack skills/Tracking sound patterns and changes in words/Building a sight word bank.   Strength in these areas will lead to more confidence, more accuracy and a clearer understanding of the reading process over time.  This class is a great mixture of reading and movement skills engineered for success.

FOCUS AND ATTENTION CLASSES
Students are naturally inquisitive, explorative, demonstrative and sensitive, but when they have trouble with attention issues, getting them to focus in a restricted environment becomes an even bigger challenge.  There is HOPE!  Core Possibilities offers dynamic, interactive sessions for students with focus and attention weaknesses.  Our goal is to teach strategies and build self awareness to help maximize each child’s potential and independence.  These sessions will emphasize several key areas needed for attention and focus success, including: Impulse control/Sustained visual and auditory attention/and Self-awareness.  This class is a great mixture of movement and focus & attention skills engineered for success.
